The Congressional Real Estate Caucus, co-chaired by Representative Lou Correa, announced the successful passage of a bipartisan housing affordability package in the House. The legislation, called the "21st Century ROAD to Housing Act," is designed to expand access to homeownership and address rising costs that have priced many families out of the market.
The bill aims to modernize federal housing programs and remove barriers that prevent middle-class and working families from buying homes. Supporters say the package includes measures to streamline mortgage processes, increase the supply of affordable units, and support first-time buyers.
Representative Correa emphasized the need for practical solutions that cross party lines. He noted that housing affordability is not a red or blue issue but a challenge affecting communities across the country. The Real Estate Caucus worked with industry experts and lawmakers from both parties to craft the legislation.
Critics of the current housing market point to stagnant wages, rising construction costs, and limited inventory as key factors driving the crisis. The new bill seeks to address these problems by encouraging public-private partnerships and cutting red tape for developers who build affordable homes.
The package now moves to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain. However, caucus leaders expressed optimism that the bipartisan nature of the bill would win support from senators on both sides of the aisle. They urged quick action, warning that delays could worsen the housing shortage.
