Towson Lawyer Gets Prison Time for Baltimore Real Estate Bank Fraud

Towson Lawyer Gets Prison Time for Baltimore Real Estate Bank Fraud

A Towson-based attorney has been handed a federal prison sentence for his role in a fraudulent real estate scheme that targeted banks in Baltimore. The man, whose legal career spanned decades, was convicted of orchestrating a complex plot that involved falsifying loan documents and inflating property values to secure millions in illicit financing.

Court records show the scheme ran for several years, during which the attorney worked with co-conspirators to submit bogus applications for residential and commercial properties. They used straw buyers and fake income statements to deceive lenders into approving loans they would not have otherwise funded. The fraud caused significant financial losses to multiple banks, some of which later failed or were forced to sell off distressed assets.

Prosecutors argued that the attorney abused his position of trust, using his knowledge of real estate law to craft deals that appeared legitimate on paper. He personally benefited from the proceeds, using the money to fund a lavish lifestyle and cover personal debts. During sentencing, the judge emphasized the need for deterrence, noting that professionals who exploit their expertise for greed undermine public confidence in the legal and financial systems.

The attorney received a sentence of over five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay restitution of nearly two million dollars to the affected institutions. His law license is expected to be revoked as a result of the conviction. The case serves as a reminder that even those in positions of authority face serious consequences when they break the law for personal gain.
