Barclays has brought in Ramin Naji as Managing Director and Head of Healthcare and Real Estate for the Asia Pacific region. Naji steps into the role with a strong background in healthcare investment banking, having previously held senior positions at Deutsche Bank and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. His new responsibilities will center on driving transaction origination and providing advisory services to clients in the healthcare and real estate sectors across the region.
The appointment signals Barclays' continued focus on deepening its industry-specific expertise in Asia Pacific. Healthcare and real estate have become increasingly active areas for dealmaking, with demand for specialized advice growing among institutional investors and corporate clients. Naji's track record in cross-border transactions and his familiarity with the region's regulatory landscape are expected to support the bank's efforts to expand its franchise in these verticals.
Before joining Barclays, Naji spent years advising on mergers, acquisitions, and capital raising for healthcare companies, including pharmaceutical firms, medical device makers, and healthcare service providers. His experience also covers real estate investment trusts and property developers, giving him a broad view of both sectors. Colleagues describe him as a hands-on banker who prioritizes long-term client relationships over short-term deal flow.
Barclays has been selectively adding senior bankers in Asia Pacific, focusing on areas where it sees sustained growth potential. The bank's leadership believes that having dedicated coverage for healthcare and real estate will help it compete more effectively against larger global rivals in the region. Naji is expected to work closely with teams across investment banking, capital markets, and advisory to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
The move comes at a time when healthcare spending in Asia Pacific continues to rise, driven by aging populations and increased demand for better medical services. Real estate markets, while more volatile, still offer significant opportunities for restructuring, financing, and cross-border investment. Barclays appears to be positioning itself to capture a larger share of these flows by placing experienced bankers in key roles. Naji will be based in Hong Kong and will report to the regional head of investment banking.
